U.S. Braces for More Religious Violence as 'The Master' Hits Theaters

Scientologists Could Declare Jihad and Attack Theaters over Offensive Film

SAN NARCISO, Calif. (Bennington Vale Evening Transcript) -- The organized effort and ferocity of the September 11 attacks against the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, caught the Obama administration by surprise. Well-armed extremists stormed the compound Tuesday killing two former Navy SEALS, an information management officer, and respected Ambassador Christopher Stevens. The violence arose during protests against the anti-Islamic film "Innocence of Muslims," which depicts the Prophet Muhammad in an insulting light. Several Libyan security guards were also slain in the hours-long assault. After trailers for "Innocence of Muslims" went viral throughout Islamic countries via YouTube, violent demonstrations occurred in Egypt and Yemen. The United States put all of its diplomatic missions abroad on high alert, bracing for the eruption of more fighting. However, as another religiously offensive film debuted Friday, security agencies began implementing similar precautions inside the country to protect citizens from potential rioting or military style attacks launched by well-equipped, well-funded Scientologist gunmen.

Libyan Strongman Gaddafi Killed, Interim Government Seeks International Bids for Standardized Spelling of Name on Headstone

SAN NARCISO, Calif. (Bennington Vale Evening Transcript) -- Muammar Gaddafi, the ruthless and erratic dictator of Libya, was killed Thursday as rebels overtook his stronghold in Sirte, a former fishing village and Gaddafi’s hometown. He was 69. Gaddafi, wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of ordering the killing of civilians, was toppled by rebel forces on August 23, just a week prior to the anniversary of the 1969 coup that placed him in power. Senior officials in the interim government hailed Gaddafi’s death as paving the way toward “liberation” after eight months of war. Despite public celebrations throughout Libya, however, uncertainty lingers. Accounts of the particulars of Gaddafi’s death seem confused, the future of Libya’s oil exports remain ambiguous, and nobody can agree on the official spelling of Gaddafi’s name. As such, the interim government has issued a global Request for Proposal to select a winning bidder to design the fallen leader’s headstone, with a standardized spelling of his name.

Conservatives Blame Obama’s Invasion of Libya on Nicotine Withdrawal

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Senator John Kerry, head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Indiana Republican Richard Lugar, a ranking member, have shared a long, agreeable history on approaching international issues. But now Lugar has expressed outrage to his colleague about President Obama’s military drive into Libya without Congressional approval, a decision that Kerry has championed.

Lugar, who is up for reelection, wrote a letter to Kerry demanding immediate hearings on the United States’ involvement in Libya. “I believe hearings not only would provide some important answers to Senators and to the American people,” he wrote, “they would induce the Obama Administration to conduct in-depth contingency planning that does not seem to have occurred.”

Mariah Carey and Charlie Sheen Admit Taking Money to Perform for Gaddafi

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Mariah Carey and Charlie Sheen are the latest celebrities to admit that they had financial ties to Libya. Carey accepted payment to perform for Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Charlie Sheen, who has reportedly paid Gaddafi’s government over $2 million, came clean about his purchases of Libyan moonshine, exotic prostitutes from the presidential harem, and for babysitting services. Members of the Gaddafi family themselves oversaw the child care responsibilities for Sheen’s five children, treating them to an authentic Bedouin experience by dragging them deep into the desert and forcing them to sleep alone in a tent.
